Alcoholics Anonymous
is a fellowship of people who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.
The only requirement
for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions.
Our primary purpose
is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.
Recovery
There is a solution
The tremendous fact for every one of us is that we have discovered a common solution. We have a way out on which we can absolutely agree, and upon which we can join in brotherly and harmonious action. This is the great news this book carries to those who suffer from alcoholism.

EL FALSO CONSUELO DE LA AUTOCONMISERACIÓN
La autoconmiseración es uno de los defectos más in- felices y que más nos carcomen que conozcamos. Es un obstáculo para todo progreso espiritual y puede cortar toda efectiva comunicación con nuestros com- pañeros, debido a su reclamación exagerada de aten- ción y simpatía. Es una forma sensiblera del martirio que difícilmente nos podemos permitir.

El falso consuelo de la autoconmiseración me saca de la realidad sólo momentáneamente y después exige, como una droga, que yo tome dosis cada vez mayores. Si yo sucumbo a esto, me puede llevar a una recaída en la bebida. ¿Qué puedo hacer? Un antídoto eficaz es poner mi atención, aunque sea muy ligeramente al principio, en otros que son verdaderamente menos afortunados que yo y preferiblemente en otros alcohólicos. Mi propio sufrimiento exagerado disminuirá en el mismo grado en que demuestre activamente mi simpatía con ellos.
